What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are titanium screws, often made from titanium alloy, that serve as artificial tooth roots. These titanium posts are surgically placed into the jaw bone, providing a strong foundation for replacement teeth. The process involves bone healing, where the bone bonds with the titanium screws, creating a stable anchor for implant-supported replacement teeth.
Once the healing process is complete, an implant abutment is attached, which serves as a connector for the prosthetic teeth, such as a dental crown, implant-supported bridges, or implant-supported dentures. Dental implants are a popular and effective alternative to conventional or removable dentures, offering a permanent solution for missing teeth.
Benefits Dental Implants?
Dental implants offer numerous advantages over conventional replacement options. They provide a natural look and feel, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Unlike removable prostheses, dental implants are fixed in place, eliminating the risk of slippage or discomfort. They also help prevent bone loss, maintain your facial structure, and support adjacent teeth. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime, making them a cost-effective solution for long-term oral health.
Furthermore, dental implants preserve the natural tooth structure of nearby teeth, as they do not require the alteration of adjacent teeth, unlike a dental bridge. This ensures that your remaining natural teeth stay healthy and intact. Dental implants also improve oral hygiene, as they are easier to clean and maintain compared to traditional dentures. Regular dental checkups and proper oral hygiene practices, including daily dental floss use, are essential for ensuring long-term success.
The top benefits of dental implants include:
- Natural look and feel
- Improved functionality
- Enhanced oral health
- Long-term durability
- Preservation of facial structure
- Protection of nearby teeth
- Enhanced speech
- Improved comfort
- Increased self-esteem
- Ability to enjoy favorite foods
Who Is a Candidate For Dental Implants?
Ideal candidates for dental implants generally have healthy gum tissue and adequate bone in the jaw to support the implant post. A consultation appointment with our oral surgeon will determine your suitability for implant procedures. During this initial visit, we will assess your oral health status, medical conditions, and health issues to ensure you are suitable for treatment.
In some cases, bone grafting may be necessary to increase the quantity of bone for successful implants. We will discuss your treatment plan, including any additional procedures, and address any concerns you may have. Patients with acute illness or uncontrolled periodontal disease may not be ideal candidates.
Dental Implant Procedures
The implant process begins with a comprehensive consultation at our dental office. During this initial visit, your oral health status will be assessed, and a personalized treatment plan will be developed. Advanced imaging techniques, such as 3D scans, will be used to evaluate the quantity of bone and vital structures. If bone grafting is required, this separate procedure will be performed before implant placement.
On the day of surgery, anesthesia will be administered to ensure your comfort. Small incisions will be made in the gum tissue to expose the jaw bone. Titanium screws, serving as artificial tooth roots, will be carefully placed into the bone at precise locations. The gum tissue will be sutured closed, and a healing period will commence. Temporary teeth or temporary dentures may be provided to maintain aesthetics and function during this period.
During the healing phase, osseointegration occurs, where the bone bonds with the titanium screws, creating a stable foundation for your replacement teeth. This process typically takes several months. Regular visits will be scheduled to monitor the healing process and ensure implant success.
Once osseointegration is complete, a second minor procedure will be performed to attach implant abutments to the implants. Abutments serve as connectors between the implants and the final dental prosthesis. Impressions will be taken to create custom-made dental crowns, implant-supported bridges, or implant-supported dentures that will be attached to the abutments. These prosthetic teeth will be carefully crafted to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth, ensuring a confident and natural smile.

We offer several forms of anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?
The cost of dental implants varies depending on several factors:
- Extent of treatment required
- Number of missing teeth
- Type of implants used
- Need for bone grafting or other additional procedures
- Complexity of the surgical procedures
- Type of dental prosthesis (dental crown, implant-supported bridges, implant-supported denture)
- Dental insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs
It is important to discuss dental care costs with your dental care provider during your initial visit.

Reviews From Our Dental Implant Patients
"I have a bridge that has attached to it my front tooth, and I didn't want to go throughout the rest of my life having to have a bridge there. I was feeling a little tense because, let's face it, there's not a lot of information about implants. Dr. Anderson was fabulous. He eased my nerves right away, even up to the point of how he was going to give me anesthetic around the area so I wouldn't even feel the needle that gives the anesthetic to do the operation. His staff—they were just really, really terrific, really great people skills. The procedure was just exactly as he said: painless. My recovery's been great; no problem. Dr. Anderson exudes warmth, friendliness. He is just a guy that you automatically, right away, you like, and I would say I would recommend him to anybody."
"I had a need for a tooth implant, and Dr. Anderson's office was recommended. Well, it was the first time for me and a little bit nervous, a little anxious. I heard a lot of good things in terms of great results from other folks. It was very, very quick, and after 24 hours I'd forgotten that I had it done. Oh, the staff is great; they recognized that I was a little anxious and just had the ability to kind of put me at ease. Oh, Dr. Anderson, he's a hoot. I enjoy his personality and just his bedside manner. He also does a great job in allowing the patients to verbalize any concerns and issues so that he has the ability to educate them and inform them on the procedure. Oh, I would recommend Granger Oral Surgery to anybody who needs any type of oral surgery services; it's a wonderful place."
"Hi, I'm Susie from Mishawaka. I came to Granger Oral Surgery for my dental implants. When I walked into this practice, I felt very, very comfortable. I found the staff here to be very helpful and kind. My doctor was very interested in myself, my needs, and I felt very happy about that. My procedure was amazing. My recovery was fantastic. My quality of life has been so much better. It feels wonderful to have a beautiful, healthy smile. My overall experience with this practice was just phenomenal. I would definitely recommend Granger Oral Surgery to others. I was really happy that I made my choice to come here."
"I had, evidently, a cracked root, and it needed to be extracted, and Dr. Anderson was able to successfully extract the tooth, and now I'm in the process of the final implant. Dr. Anderson was very comforting and reassuring and explained the process, and I think that created a great deal of comfort and confidence in me. He just had a reassuring aura of him. And after he explained the pros and cons of the procedure, I felt comfortable with the procedure that I ended up going with. I would highly recommend Dr. Anderson; as I mentioned, you know, you judge people on how they've treated you, and I've had an excellent result here. When it comes to health care, I generally seek out the best healthcare provider, and I think Dr. Anderson's a very good one at that."
"Well, I had a bridge about 20 years ago, and it broke, and my dentist recommended dental implants from Dr. Anderson, and so I came to see him. When I got here, I felt completely good about what was going to happen. The staff was very, very courteous and friendly. I can't say enough about them. Dr. Anderson was pretty much just like a layperson, telling you everything that had to be done in lay terms. Very, very nice guy. The surgery was fine. He took all of it out. I didn't have any pain. It was done fairly quickly. I definitely would recommend Granger Oral Surgery."
